Alex & Amanda wanted to have a a small ceremony with just close friends and family, so they went to Shotgun Ceremonies Wedding Chapel in Seattle and a large wedding is NOT an option, but it is a really great spot when you want to have a smaller wedding. It is very funky and the people that work there are a lot of fun. Because of the timing of the wedding and reception we did all of their photos at Shotgun Ceremonies and on the short walk between there and Merchants Cafe & Saloon. (The oldest Saloon in Seattle) where they had their reception in a very cool basement space. They also wanted to have something for their guests to do as there wasn’t enough space for dancing, so they added our GONNA SNAP! Photo Booth and gave it a good workout!
Some of our favorite photos taken at a recent wedding at Heartland Ranch in Graham, WA. We love this venue, not just because of the great locations for photos, but the friendly staff really go out of their way to help out.
We were beyond thrilled when Refinery29, a fashion and style website, contacted us for a feature one of our amazing wedding couples – Hally and Lou. Both were gorgeous tattooed brides that chose dresses to highlight their artwork. This post is a true testament that the perceptions around tattoos are changing. No more cover up makeup. Brides are proud to show off their ink!
The Refinery29 post highlights 10 beautiful brides who refused to cover their tattoos up. We were so pleased they let us photograph their big day!

As Seattle area wedding photographers we get to visit amazing wedding venues in Washington and beyond. Wedding venues that offer a mix of outdoor and indoor spaces are the most flexible for couples – and they offer the most diverse backdrop for your wedding day photos. Kalley and Eric were married at Green Gates at Flowing Lake in Snohomish, Washington.
This venue has a fantastic open bluff that overlooks the Cascade Mountain Range and shoreline. The reception was held in the open air covered barn structure that, once night falls, literally glows with rustic romantic twinkly lights.
At every turn the venue offers great photo opportunities. The owners have put a lot of thought into making sure that there are many vantage points for wedding pictures. We were even given help in hoisting Kalley’s dress up for just the perfect setting.
The event went off without a hitch. We coordinated our photo schedule with the couple’s wedding planner Jennifer of Elements NW Events and Weddings so we were all on the same page for the days’ anticipated events. The wedding details were rustic and romantic. The tablescapes included dahlias and a mix of in season flowers set atop marvelously rustic tree platters.
Looking for a different twist on your wedding cake? Kalley and Eric have a love of brownies so they opted for a tower of brownies with all the fixin’s on the side. There was also a decadent candy buffet that the adults frequented more than the children.
Congratulations to Kalley and Eric! We absolutely loved your wedding and are so glad we could be part of the day.

Are you ready to hit the ski slopes? Mike and Allie’s Crystal Mountain destination wedding was one of my favorites of the summer. It was an elegant affair with the backdrop of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Range providing a sweeping view for all the wedding photos. The Crystal Mountain Resort does not disappoint. As a wedding photographer I couldn’t ask for a better skyline.
Getting married and wanting to preview the venue? You can contact the wedding sales manager for a complimentary site tour which includes a gondola ride to the summit for the bride and groom.
Congratulations to the happy couple.
We truly live in the most amazing of places. Being Seattle wedding photographers is a dream. And, as an added bonus, cloud cover is actually great for photos.
Not too long ago we started a Firstlight Photography Pinterest Washington Wedding Venue Board and are trying to capture all of the Washington wedding venues where we have photographed weddings. We’d be lying if we didn’t say we had a long way to go.
Our newest venue crush is Rein Fire Ranch in Ravensdale, WA. The owners hosted us for a recent bridal portrait shoot that has been in the works for several years. We initially shot Tiffany and Brandon’s Friday the 13th wedding years ago. They were our first Offbeat Bride couple.
Tiffany is the most amazing of sports so we approached her at the end of last year with a Trash the Dress proposal. Since she had already worn her dress for a cemetery shoot, a library dress up event, Halloween and we think she even said she vacuumed her house in it – she agreed it was time to kick it up a notch. She was of the mind to go big or go home so we knew we needed some fire power behind us. We plotted out the demise of her dress (and we should mention that she and Brandon are still going strong!) and set our plan in motion.
We invited JoAnn from Studio J Salon and Day Spa to do Tiffany’s hair and makeup. We wanted to do a final farewell to the dress so we captured some bridal shots of Tiffany. From there, it was back to hair and makeup for a much different look.
Tiffany has worked with Firstlight Photography for so many years now that photographing her is so incredibly easy. She has got it down. We all had so much fun as we wandered the grounds of Rein Fire Ranch. We even had a chance to spend time with some of the furry critters that call RFR home.
Here is a sneak peek at the second part of the session. We had a blast with this Trash the Dress session! Stay tuned for more!
Firstlight Photography does alot of wedding photography at the Bellevue LDS Temple.
The Bellevue Temple offers a tremendous backdrop for photos. Firstlight Photography knows the grounds well and has several favorite locations for wedding sessions. We can help you plan your wedding. Our LDS Wedding Packages start at $625.
If this Firstlight Photography wedding picture leaves you wanting more, click on it to see a video of this couple’s wedding day! The venue was Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend nd it was quite impressive.
We met Alex and Nichole at the South Sound Wedding Show at the beginning of the year. Here is a sneak peek at their wedding from this weekend. They were married at Fort Worden State Park – which also happens to be where parts of the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman” was filmed. It truly is an amazing location. Alex and Nichole are a fabulous couple with amazing family and friends.
What a lovely day. Congratulations to you both! More to come!
the other half
This picture was taken at Union Station during the first wedding that my husband Kier and I worked together. As the behind the scenes person at Firstlight Photography I decided now that our kids are getting older, it was time to join in the fun of taking photos. Since I was a child I have always had a camera and a love for photography but Kier has worked hard to teach me the technical aspects I used to just “fake.”
other duties as assigned
The thing that has surprised me most about shooting weddings is all of the “other duties as assigned” that pop up. I can’t tell you how many flowers I have pinned on the gents – not to mention a few bridal bouquets have required a quick fix. I find people. I find rings. I give guests directions via cell (for those that know me well – this is down right scary). I straighten ties. I help repair unfortunate accidents that sometimes happen to cakes. I work with the wedding planners to ensure we understand the timing of the event. I even take the family dog for a walk around the grounds. I feel lucky to be invited to the best parties around the Puget Sound – and I enjoy being able to help smooth out the wrinkles that always pop up and make things interesting. I travel with my McGyver Bag of tricks and supplies. It comes in very handy.
Mostly I take photos. I take this picture at every wedding I shoot with Kier. I am usually in the background when he is doing portraits so you can see my perspective below! I just can’t resist this shot.
