Firstlight Photography has hooked up with Free University to offer a couple of basic photography classes. We are also very proud that one of our photographs was chosen to be used for the cover of the first Free University course catalogue.

We will be teaching you basic operation of that really cool camera you bought, but can’t figure out how to really use.  We take about 2 hours and go over some basic photography principles and camera operation.

It doesn’t matter if you have a point & shoot camera or a more advanced SLR, I’ll help you get the most out of your camera.

Classes will be in the Puyallup South Hill area from  6:30 – 8:30 on April 21st & June 16th.  Contact Free Universtiy WA to register.  There will be a fee of $5.00 to register for the class.

Special Delivery!

Tricia Fisk, wedding planner extraordinaire, from Weddings Realized is such a fun client.  She and her husband Chas have stopped by our home studio twice for a 6th and 7th month maternity photo session.

Having Fun @ Your Shoot

These pictures show a couple not afraid of a good time.  At Firstlight Photography we want you to have fun during your session.  We never take ourselves too seriously – and we won’t let you!  Our goal is to get natural shots.  For our shy clients we pull out the studio dogs.  Actually, who are we kidding?  The dogs love to have their pics taken so much that sometimes we need to put them in our office.

Takin’ it on the Road

At 8 months we are heading to the Fisk’s home to do some nursery photos and hopefully – weather permitting – some outdoor shots of this super fun couple.

We can’t wait to take the baby photos!  We love this couple.  For more maternity photos visit our main website!

the grass is greener

It was a dry summer as can be seen from the before photos take at the Meridian Habitat Park in Puyallup.  I know my bride was very disappointed that the grass was so brown so I decided to surprise her with a little bit of Photoshop magic.   Below you will see the before and after images – and not a drop of water was used in this eco-friendly photo editing work.

For most of my life my two biggest obsessions have been airplanes and photography and I love it when those two obsessions meet.   This DC-3 showed up at Thun Field in Puyallup recently and last night I just had to go take some photos of it.  It didn’t matter how cold and wet it was, I really wanted to get out there.  I figured the mistwould do great things with the lights at Thun Field.  This is really one of the nicest DC-3’s I’ve ever seen and if my my information is correct it is the property of the Thun family.  Well, they did a great job and I’m so glad it is there for me to photograph.

I’ve mentioned Ubiquitous Journey (Ubi’s) in a couple of previous entries, so I’ll keep this fairly short.  Robyn, the owner of Ubi’s, has invited me in to host a discussion about my photography later this month and I wanted to take a chance to invite anybody that may be interested to come.  Ubi’s has a lot to offer, featuring a great selection of organic products, covering the range from loose leaf teas to organic cotton clothing.

Please come and join us

May 13th at 6:30 pm.

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to get a tour of Rock Creek Gardens on their official first day open to the public and I was amazed!  I met with Gracie Safford and she spent a long time walking me around the grounds and showing me the bridal suite.  She was clearly excited about the upcoming wedding season and explained that although this will be their first official season they did have a “secret season” last summer to help iron out all the wrinkles.  If you are interested in getting a tour of the grounds give Gracie a call to make an appointment.  The grounds are stunning and Gracie is very helpful, but if you are interested make a booking early as this summer is nearly full already and next summer will go fast!

As well as a great wedding and event venue Rock Creek also offers a very nice nursery that  is open to the public, but if you would like a tour of the venue please call ahead and make an appointment.

Besides being an event venue Rock Creek Gardens will be having live jazz on Tuesday nights in July, so if you’re looking for something to do in July this is a great chance to visit a great venue and listen to some live jazz.

For information please call or e-mail:

I have known Lisa Williams, one of the people responsible for putting on the Washington International Girl Pageant, for a while now, but only recently found out that she was involved in the Pageant.  I’ve know her as a realtor until she asked me to take some photos of her daughter for the pageant.  It was a pleasure, her daughter was great to work with and it was clear she was having fun.
