guilt free weddings

Mitzi and I hosted a Firstlight Photography booth at the Simply Organized Bride event in Ferndale  and were really inspired.  We are seeing the green wedding trend continuing stronger than ever and there are some very innovative new products – as well as some back to basics.

vanishing cups

Our friend Nick from Avenue Catering modeled the latest biodegradable cups from Eco Products .  While these won’t work for every wedding, they are an excellent alternative for outdoor weddings as well as cocktail cups.  Made from corn these will vanish in your compost in 45-60 days.

sustainably grown plates

Memorable Events and Catering brought an interesting alternative to the table.  Bambu brand compostable plates are stylish bamboo plates that are 100 % organic.  These  stylish settings compost in four to six months. They also have the best bamboo appetizer sporks and delicious edible spoons that can be used for sweet or savory recipes (their chocolate spoon filled with mousse was fabulous).

socially responsible chic

One of the most charming displays was Sweet Peas and Carrot Cake.  Nancy owns a sustainable flower farm and caters to weddings and special events.  If you choose, you can even hand pick flowers for your bouquet.  Nancy’s flower selections are not only a green alternative, but they are wonderfully unique and chic.

How to spice up your bachelorette party

Times have changed and so have bachelorette or hen parties.  Today’s bride has many options-destination events, club crawls, spa treatments, pole dancing lessons, passion parties and so much more!  We love to hear the stories that our brides share about their fun and creative bachelorette parties.  We’ve asked our friend Desiree Snowden to write a guest blog on her favorite topic – the Passion Party.

Wedding Favors with Flavor

Wedding favors should be something that your guests can enjoy without breaking the bank.   I absolutely loved this idea that I saw on the Martha Stewart Weddings site.

The idea reminded me of my friend Robyn, owner of Ubiquitous Journey.  Every time I stop by Robyn always offers me tea.   She offers everyone through the door tea.   I have a whole cupboard filled with her teas and my kids even ask for tea now!  They always want to go visit Robyn.

She carries a wide variety of loose leaf bulk tea that would be perfect for this low cost, green (in more ways than one) wedding favor idea.

Card Prototypes

We have been busy selecting more images that we will use on our new wedding cards.   In the end we will have 4 to 6.  These cards will be further cropped – they are rough drafts but we wanted your opinion on where the design was headed.  We realize the back of the card isn’t quite there yet but we have our secret weapon – Aunt Cheri taking a look.   What do you think?

Here is the front and back of one of our wedding cards.  These will be further cropped, but we wanted to get your thoughts.  Any suggestions?
