Kier and Mitzi like to go to a variety of wedding shows to meet new vendors and reconnect with the many vendors we have had the pleasure of working with.
When we are  doing a wedding we are constantly on the go.  We work side by side with the vendors that are also working at the wedding.  So, as photographers we get to admire what the florist delivers, hear bands or listen to what DJ’s have to say, and of course we get to taste a wide variety of food.

Papa Eddie's Spread

Last weekend we were invited to a tasting at the Afifi Shrine and Event Center in Tacoma which also happens to be the headquarters of Papa Eddie’s Catering.  The concept was simple – they invited clients and vendors to a tasting.  They played good music and as we sat at our tables it was like being at a wedding and actually having a chance to sit, enjoy the food and chat with friends!
We’re very pleased to hear that they want to make this a monthly event.  We aren’t about to turn down a catered lunch tasting with these guys but more importantly it is really inspiring to sit down with fellow wedding vendors and colleagues.  We walked away getting to know a few additional vendors and we were able to learn a few new tips.

Thanks Papa Eddie’s!  (PS – we loved the asparagus and phyllo appetizers)

"Before" Editing in Photoshop

At Firstlight Photography we want our customers to be blown away by their pictures.

We have been working in Photoshop for years and have a skill set that allows us to maximize each photo.

Our client (pictured) booked a photo session and asked that we even out her skin in her photos.  In her before and after pictures you can see the difference that Photoshop editing can make.

It is important that you talk to your photographer before you book your session so you understand the extent of the edits that will be provided to you.

At Firstlight we brighten teeth, smooth out facial tones and our favorite is the de-sweating of our brides and grooms.  Lets face it, weddings can get hot and the last thing we want to do is to give our clients sweaty photos!  If we take a picture that is unflattering you will never see it!

Robyn, the owner of Ubiquitous Journey, has invited me to be a featured artist at her in-store gallery in Puyallup.  I met Robyn through a Kieran’s List  networking meeting and paid a visit to her store.   The store is a one-stop shop for natural and earth friendly products.

Robyn carries a wide array of natural products for infants and adults including organic cotton clothing, personal care items, teas, supplements,  jewelry and beaded art, home decor and a variety of other goods.  Visit her website to register for the next beginning yoga class or to learn how to make medicine bags.  It is truly the most unique store in Puyallup.

While you are there, please check out my photographs!  For those that are most familiar with my wedding work you will get to see what I do in my spare time.  So, stop by and check out my landscape portraits.

Engagement Photo Session in Tacoma

Engagement Photo Session in Tacoma

Planning a wedding is filled with so many decisions.  Spending the time to find the right photographer for your event is key because of the importance of documenting every detail.  Lets face it, your photographer only gets one chance at so many key moments.  The day is filled with excitement and emotion  – it goes by in a flash for couples.

Our job is to make sure we catch all of the little things that you might not have time to see.  We also deliver the posed and group photos and we have a fantastic time capturing candids of our couples and their wonderful and very amusing guests.

How do you know what photographer is right for you?  We recommend that you take some time and research websites for local photographers.  Make some calls and spend some time getting to know your professionals.

We sit down and meet with prospective couples over coffee and take time to learn about your wedding and your photography needs.  Reviewing our portfolios is very helpful because it not only gives you a sense of our work, but we begin to understand your personality and what types of photos you like.

We work with many local wedding professionals and can also help to answer other wedding questions.  To arrange a meeting time call us at 253.335.7958 or send an Email (kier@firstlight-photography.com)!

Catching a flake
Catching a flake

What better way to keep busy on a snow day?  Lauren, a Rogers High School student in Puyallup wanted to get some photos in the snow.  It is so much fun to get out of the studio to do some field work.  We live in such a fabulous region and have amazing back drops to choose from.

At Firstlight we love to work with families in our community.  Lauren’s mom chose us to take photos of Keven, her Rogers Senior.  Now, her daughter has caught the modeling bug.   We enjoy building relationships and working with family members for all of their milestones.
