Firstlight Photography is now booking senior portrait sessions!  We live in Puyallup, WA and do many sessions in the downtown core because there is the perfect balance of natural backgrounds and great city-scape backdrops.  Tacoma also offers great diversity.  What it will all boil down to is the look and feel that you and your senior are after.  We can travel to your city or specified destination for photos (think high school, Space Needle, Post Alley, Pike Place Market, etc).

We will work with you to make sure we get what you are looking for – after all, you only have your senior year once and these photos are a great way to document a very special time in life.  We will also help with wardrobe ideas.  You can get started by looking at our selection of ideas on Pinterest.

And, if you need a more formal headshot, we are fully equipped with a studio.

For $350 your senior will get the following:

  • Pre-shoot Consultation (where we work with you to plan your session’s details and chat about wardrobe, props, locations).
  • 2 Hour Shoot
  • $100 in  Print Credits
  • Private Online Gallery
  • Custom Mobile Gallery App

& For an additional $95 you get a DVD with all high resolution images.

Do you have a sophomore or junior? Firstlight Photography is accepting 2015 and 2016 senior reps now.

My parents paid loads for my senior portrait – I say portrait because I only recall seeing one image.  Every moment of my studio session was like torture.  The backdrop scene was a forest with a fake fence prop.  I really didn’t know what was happening.  The photographer was, well, sort of uninterested in his job and I just wanted to escape the cheese factor asap.  Sorry Dad and Mom.

At Firstlight Photography we want our seniors to have FUN.  You have a say – lots of it – in your shoot.  It is simple.  If you feel in control and are having fun it will show in your photos.  Senior portraits are meant to capture a very special moment in time.  We will talk to you about your interests, where you like to hang out, how you spend your time when not in school, if you play sports or are in a band etc.  We like to get to know you so we can create a lifestyle session that helps show who you are – not who your photographer wants you to be (ie that sad farm girl with the fake fence).

We will help prepare you for outfits to bring and will refer you to hair and make-up artists we recommend if you so desire.  We have a whole repertoire of locations we shoot.  We find many new ones based on our seniors’ input.  If you are going for a downtown, urban grunge, graffiti wall, waterfront, rustic barn, decomposing structures, nature vibe or even your high school – we can work it into your shoot.

We also offer a year in the life packages for the senior.  We basically stalk you on three to five shoots and capture you in your natural habitat.  These sessions are lots of fun.  By the end, our seniors are ready to assist any photographer – they really learn the ropes and get an amazing collection of photos.

Your shoot will be fun and you will get to provide input into the session.  We don’t want you to have those sad farm girl pictures too.

Our prices are very affordable and we will create custom packages for you.

The end of the school year is upon us and we’re getting a rush of seniors wanting photos.  While it is getting late in the year to book packages (we do still have some time slots open)  it is not too early for all the juniors to start thinking about their senior portraits.

Firstlight Photography is looking for 6 Puyallup seniors that would like to earn free senior portraits for the 2011/2012 school year and help represent Firstlight at their schools.   We will be selecting one boy and one girl from Puyallup, Rogers & Emerald Ridge.  All you need to do to be considered is send us an e-mail with your contact information and tell us about yourself and why we should pick you.   We’ll be taking submissions throughout summer and will make our decision before the start of the school year.  More details will be posted to our Facebook page, so make sure to check in and press the “like” button while you’re there.

bartering we will go

It has been a long time coming, but Firstlight Photography is getting a shiny new website!  The barter system is alive and well and our web story is living proof.  Last fall I shot a wedding for a fabulous couple and we were able to work out a trade for services.  The groom has done some amazing coding but I have been struggling with the overall design when my pal Camron of Level 70 Design stepped in to do some mock ups for us.  We love our network of incredibly talented friends (including Kieran and Sherri Murray and their exuberant take on social networking).  I can’t wait to see what Camron does for our weddings page!

door #1 or door #2?

The below mock ups are two different takes on one commercial photography page (to see our current page click here).  Which one tickles your fancy the most?  Please post your comments and help us make a decision.  The overall look will find its way onto our wedding, portraitsports pages.  Our new web will also feature landscapes.

Visit us on facebook and become a fan and we’ll keep you updated on our web and upcoming specials.

Senior portraits are all about showing the individual personality of my clients.  Working together we pick the type of location that will work best.  Some of the more popular locations are urban backdrops and natural settings – the Puget Sound region offers an abundance to choose from.

Since some clients want the on location shots and studio shots I have found that it only takes a few minutes to set up my studio equipment at a client’s home.  If indoor space is at a premium, we can move the studio to a family garage.

We have clients come prepared with wardrobe changes and a make up kit.  We also love it when a friend joins us since it is such an ice-breaker.  And, having a parent there is always nice since we always make time for mom and/or dad to get into the action!

Senior photo season is here

I had a blast shooting senior photos yesterday. He was very comfortable in front of the camera and seemed to really have a good time.
